Eduqas English Literature Component 2 unseen poetry lesson that is useful as an introduction to poetry for both KS3 and KS4 students. It uses the SMILE acronym to help students understand how to approach a poem they’ve not seen before and think about the various elements to consider when analysing and evaluating a new poem. Recently revamped, fully differentiated and very engaging for students of all abilities.

A fully differentiated lesson that looks at a Paper 2-style Eduqas English Literature question (extract and question included) on A Christmas Carol and reviews the presentation of Scrooge as unsympathetic, the use of language in the extract and how the extract can be linked to historical context before students review their own answers and then self-assess each other’s work. Easily adaptable for other exam questions and for other exam boards. I’m really proud of this one!
